Spot Lite Detroit is one of the hottest meeting places in the city. And what better way to celebrate their 2 year Anniversary by hosting one of the best movements in music with none other than Soul in the Horn curator D Prosper and DJ Natasha Diggs.
With an all-star lineup such as Rimarkable, Cleveland Browne, New York’s own L3ni, and special guest Dames Brown, this was a evening guaranteed to be filled with nonstop music with hardly any respite in between. As the evening kicked off, Rimarkable got the spectators in the groove with smooth cuts of R&B, House, and Disco. Outside in the back of the the venue, the infamous patio that has a special grotto to chill, Cleveland Browne raised the temperature higher with the congregation. L3ni was next up on the turntables with a look in her eyes that sparkled with merriment. She definitely kept the gaiety rolling with her carousal of Soul in the Horn exclusives that kept bodies moving with elation.
Resident DJ Natasha Diggs, known for her signature twirls and side to side sashays along with her wide-brimmed hats dubbed the “45 Queen” held up her side of things that took you on a expedition with early ‘80’s funk, soulful house cuts, Afrobeat, and Brazilian bangers backed up by a horn section that was out of this world. It was turned up an extra notch with surprise guests Athena Johnson, Teresa Marbury, and LaRae Starr better yet known as Detroit’s own Dames Brown. Belting out soulful selections such as “Heaven”, “What Would You Do”, and the newly released single “Glory” that has a rich gospel, funk, and soul feel that had the party goers raising their hands to the sky.
Many Detroiters have never experienced a Soul in the Horn party. But if you can, make it point to absolutely go.
Natasha…We need you here again soon. Because the third time is always a charm.
